NOTES FROM RANDY
Happy Tuesday, arguably the worst day of the week! That’s why we’re here to try and brighten it a bit for everyone. As much as a dystopian story can, I suppose.
Last week Jason handled the opening to this scene of Colton and Avery driving the agency rental. And now is when Chapter 4 really starts to move. From this point on, things will be weird, fast, and brutal at points. And I absolutely love that about these next several pages.
With this page, I paid A LOT of attention to the Hermes caduceus pin. I really enjoyed getting to draw something that I normally wouldn’t ever even think of drawing, and being able to change the design up a bit to help add to the lore of our world. As Colton and Avery mention here, this was quite a time before where we are now. Yet, a diamond still exists in this pin. I intended to show that whatever happened to these people and their government to lead to where we are now, was all done from the inside out. The parasite, as it were, was already inside and there was nothing they could do to stop it.
SUB ROSA
So as you may or may not have noticed by now, Avery got a redesign. Why?
Because I felt like it.
But also because, while I was doing research for a class I teach, I came across a windbreaker jacket that I loved. And since Jason and I have “codenames” for everyone, Avery’s being “windbreaker,” I really wanted to create a new windbreaker for him for Volume 2.
I also let him finally let his hair down.
I liked drawing his previous hairstyle, but it got to a point that Avery was starting to feel a sort of change in the winds of his life. Things are starting to move in a different direction than he ever expected, so I decided to let him relax a little bit to allow for the world to move him around a little more while he still navigates his impending future.
Either way, I like the new look and I hope you do too!
Jason is back with you on Thursday, and I’ll be back again next week!
