Well, it certainly has been a while, but it’s nice to get this ride going again. Today’s page gives us a rare glimpse of the inside of Diamond Tower, the cold colossus always present throughout our tale. Technically we’ve been here already, as The Agency headquarters make up a good chunk of those upper floors, but we haven’t been to the clock itself. Originally, this scene took place in an Agency briefing room, but somewhere along the line I figured this location would be a lot more visually interesting. Besides, when else am I going to be able to show off the inside of the clock tower? Plus, clocks are consistently present throughout Colton’s journey so far, so it certainly made sense in that regard. It’s one of those cases where creative instincts and opportunity help make a regular scene better. This won’t be the last time such a moment occured in this chapter, but more on that later.
One other little tidbit I’ll mention is that in the earliest drafts of this chapter, Colton received the medal in a public ceremony by Minister Logan himself. His taking down Harker in the last chapter would have made him a bit of a celebrity, a typical moment in superhero tales. As the story and the world developed over the years, it didn’t fit in though, and so the ceremony and celebrity was cut, but the medal remained. Logan strikes me as the type to show gratitude for a heroic deed, unofficial as it might be.
