NOTES FROM RANDY
Happy Tuesday!
This page is intense in a lot of ways, all of them good, I think. Bert berating Harker is a sight to be seen, though Harker doesn’t seem to be fazed. This has been, since I originally drew it, one of my favorite pages of my art from this chapter. When I revamped the art on various pages, this one never changed. I just inked it again as it was, and let it shine again. However, it was a master class in leaving enough room for letters. I *thought* I had done so quite well, but wow. Had to really work it to make it work.
SUB ROSA
I don’t have a mile-long, inspiring behind-the-scenes look this week. BUT, what I will say is, this page is a bit special to me. It is one of the times that I used a friend’s likeness in my art for a character. We have, in the past, used plenty of NAMES of people we know for characters, but I haven’t ever focused on likeness.
The guy that plays Bert is actually a friend named Erik. I worked with him for some time at my old day job. I haven’t seen him in some time, but I always told him that he was in this chapter, and he loved it. And fun fact: Erik is ordained, and is the guy that married my wife and I over lunch with our family in a local restaurant/ bar that her and I hold dear. It was a beautiful day, July 16th, 2017. We had him sign it for the next day so that our official anniversary is the same as the area code where we met; 7/17/2017 (or 7/17/17). I’m forever grateful for Erik’s role in helping us establish our wonderful family so adding him as a character in this story is the absolute least I could do.
