NOTES FROM RANDY
We have finally hit the scene that I was a bit scared of at first.
The interior of this house was one that I hesitated on for as long as I could. Mostly because when I’m given an empty wall to fill (Harker’s cell, anyone?), sometimes my brain just seizes up.
But honestly, the more I tackle these scenes the better I feel. I filled that wall with so many little easter eggs, and just tried my best to have fun with it. Even though many of you won’t be able to actually make out any of the craziness in the details, I still really wanted everything to be there…even if just for me.
This scene continues into tomorrow’s page too, and it truly is one of the more revealing scenes of the entire book so far.
When Jason and I originally talked through the withdrawal-like symptoms of the items, it led us down the path to try and answer two questions; “what really ARE the items and how do they work?” This scene in Virgil’s house, I believe, is truly the beginning of our understanding. And when Jason and I finally answered those two questions, it is safe to say we ended up with more questions. However, I think Jason took every idea we had, including some ideas he had after those talks, he blended them together (tossing out what was just too much), and he found a way to explain some of the more unexplainable parts beautifully.
I don’t want to say too much more, because, well, you’ll see tomorrow.
